 At this time, brain tumor research is underfunded and the public remains
 unaware of the magnitude of this disease.  The cure rate for most brain
 tumors is significantly lower than that for many other types of cancer? 
 Gliomas account for 42% of all tumors and 77% of malignant tumors? 
 Brain tumors have no socio-economic boundaries and do not discriminate
 among gender or ethnicity? Nor has any behavioral change been shown
 to reduce the risk. 
 There are currently no known causes of brain tumors? 
 That in the field of neuro-oncology, tumor growth of 25% or less is
 considered stable
 There are over 120 different types of brain tumors? 
 Cancer rates among children are increasing by 1% per year? 
 Cancer kills more children than asthma, diabetes, cystic fibrosis, and AIDS
 combined
 1 in every 334 children will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20? 
 12,000 children every year are diagnosed with some form of cancer of
 which 35% (4,200) do not survive?  
 Other than accidents, cancer is the leading cause of death among children? 







 

 3,500 children are diagnosed with some form of a brain tumor of which
 40% (1,400) of these children will not survive?

  As of May 2006, only 63 tumors from patients with DIPG have undergone
 limited genetic studies?
 Without your express consent, a hospital will not release tissue samples
 to any other research organization? ie., St. Jude to NIH or NIH to St.
 Jude, etc.
